    www.re5ult.co.uk

In presenting the award on behalf of the judges, Mike Short, VP at O2 and Chairman of the Mobile Data Association said "This was a hotly contested category with a lot of innovation in this area. The whole area of mobile search actually needs a lot of help and in the case of 82ASK they are doing a lot of very good things in this area."

Founded in 2003, RE5ULT Ltd is the privately held company that has developed and operates the 82ASK service. 82ASK was born out of a real need to be able to access the best quality information on the move. An initial year of research, development and an on-going free trial led the company to launch the commercial 82ASK service in August 2004.

82ASK allows mobile phone users (on all six UK networks) to send any question to 82275 (82ASK on their mobile phone key-pad) and receive an answer back to their mobile in minutes.

To date tens of thousands of requests have been received with an average month-on-month growth of 40%. ??¢â?¬??¢ Video-phone reporting live on TV. Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) Norway

    www.nrk.no

In presenting the award on behalf of the judges, Angel Gambino, Controller Business Development & Emerging Platforms, BBC said ??¢â?¬???A difficult category to combine both the production elements that create mass audiences and also the user generated material. NRK have done a fantastic job and keep innovating in this area.??¢â?¬??

Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) aired live video from a mobile phone on national television during the Vasaloppet ski race ( the world??¢â?¬â?¢s longest and biggest cross country ski race). The service enables the broadcast to report breaking news live on TV instantly and keep it going until normal broadcasting equipment is in place.

NRK reporter Christian Grotnes who took part in the event was equipped with a 3G phone and commented on his own video images six times during the race.

The video quality can be compared to that of video via satellite phones, but a 3G phone is much cheaper and easier to use.

  5. Best use in Government, public services or a not-for-profit organisation
Awarded to an organisation that has used mobile messaging with best effect to provide an effective information or feedback service, alerts or awareness campaign.

??¢â?¬??¢ Baltic Sea Oil Alerts (WWF). Mermit Business Applications Finland

    www.mermit.fi

In presenting the award on behalf of the judges, Mike Short, VP at O2 and Chairman of the Mobile Data Association said ??¢â?¬???Public sector is not doing enough with SMS and messaging generally. It's a very practical experience. In a similar to some of the Tsunami text relief that has taken place and others in education, health and transport. The Mermit entry just stood out.??¢â?¬??

Global conservation organization WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is using Mermit Business Applications??¢â?¬â?¢ SMS alert system to be able to respond quickly in case of an oil spillage in the Baltic Sea. Used by WWF Finland's volunteers. If there is an oil tanker disaster in the Baltic Sea region, WWF Finland can now deliver information and action guidelines to more than 3000 volunteers via SMS. The group leaders can also guide their subordinates by sending a simple SMS to the system from where it is automatically distributed to all the persons allocated to their group.

The SMS alerts can also be sent to the volunteers according to their postal codes in WWF??¢â?¬â?¢s contact database. E.g. if a minor oil spill occurs in the north-west of Finland the messages will be sent only to those living in nearby areas. In the next phase of the project the system will support GSM localization based services, so that the alerts will be sent to all the volunteers that are currently e.g. not further than 300 km from the place the oil catastrophe took place.

As Russia continues its expansion of oil transportation in the Baltic Sea the need for special protection measures in one of the Earth's most vulnerable seas is imminent"", says Anita M?????¤kinen, head of WWF's Particularly Sensitive Seas Areas (PSSA) Baltic campaign. ""Fortunately our troops were not needed last year, even though there were several close calls at the Baltic Sea area and also one oil spill in Sweden.""

The system is intended to mobilise clean-up volunteers as quickly as possible to limit the damage caused by an oil spill. P?????¤iv?????¤nen notes: ??¢â?¬???We all remember the Prestige catastrophe in Spain, which killed 300 000 sea birds and cost 5 billion euros in cleanup and environmental damage.

  6. Best Enterprise Solution
Judges will be looking for innovative and practical ways that enterprises large or small have been able to make the best use of mobile messaging in their business.

    ??¢â?¬??¢ Dutch Rail. LogicaCMG Netherlands

    www.logicacmg.com

Presenting the award, Ken Blakeslee, CEO Mobility Ventures said ??¢â?¬???It was good to see so many entries from the enterprise sector. I always like to see things that touch human beings and the Dutch application is a way of keeping their employees informed so that they can in turn inform people who are standing in train stations with what is going on. This was a really good application that deserves the award.??¢â?¬??

In 2003/2004, LogicaCMG helped Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) to manage its 10,000-strong mobile workforce to maintain a dynamic view of staff activities as well as distributing operational and travel information. LogicaCMG acted as an intermediary, working to distribute information gathered in the back-office to staff via mobile devices ??¢â?¬â?? resulting in the biggest mobile workforce project in Europe. Since 1996, staff at NS have been equipped with Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) called Railpockets?????® providing customer facing staff with reference information. From 2003 LogicaCMG has worked with NS to introduce the third generation Railpocket with added online features.

The online component (via Bluetooth/GSM/GPRS) of the Railpocket gives staff instant access to up-to-date information about disruptions and changes to train schedules, making them able to offer timely and accurate information to passengers.

In addition, registration functionality allows staff to instantly report a wealth of information including ticket sales and service delays. Offline email and SMS functions were already introduced to the Railpocket the second in 2000, making communication with staff easier. The bulk data exchange between the Railpocket and the back office takes place via a memory card on the Railpocket which can be updated using a PC at the railway station. Up-to-date information is pushed via SMS or pulled via GPRS.

  7. Best M-commerce application or service
Mobile Payments systems, vouchers, credit transfer and other innovative ways that mobile phones can be used for payments or transactions.

??¢â?¬??¢ Globe G-Cash. Globe Telecom, Inc. Philippines

    www.g-cash.com.ph

Presenting the award, Ken Blakeslee, CEO Mobility Ventures said "It was good to see such a varied selection of entries for m-commerce which indicates to me not only that the technology of secure payments is in place but also the trust at the individual and business level is there as well. This particular one involves not just a mobile wallet but large sums of money that can transferred and then spent locally."

G-Cash is a breakthrough in mobile commerce, transforming subscribers??¢â?¬â?¢ phones into ??¢â?¬???mobile wallets??¢â?¬??. With only a mobile phone and SMS (US$0.02 per local text), Filipinos can: Buy goods and services, send money person-to-person, receive domestic and international remittances, make utility and tax payments, donations, and loan payments. It is TRULY mobile, being both cashless AND cardless.

G-Cash empowers more than 12 million subscribers by turning their mobile phones into a mobile wallet. This allows them to avail of services that go beyond pure communication ??¢â?¬â?? a lifestyle changing, lifestyle enhancing benefit for many Filipinos. 75% of Filipinos do not have bank accounts or credit cards.

With only a mobile phone and SMS, the subscriber can do any major cash transactions made by consumers today: purchases and payments, person-to-person transactions, domestic and international remittances.

G-Cash was launched in October 2004 and, by the end of January 2005, had reached 320,000 registered users, by end of April 2005 we have reached close to 1 million registered users

  8. Best Mobile Messaging Handset or device
Judges will look for the device that stands out as text input and messaging friendly inclduing features such as easier text input, memory storage and integrated handset software.

??¢â?¬??¢ Fastap LG 6190. Digit Wireless, Inc. USA

Digit Wireless Pictured left to right:
    David Levy, Founder Digit Wireless; Mike Short, Chairman MDA; Award Ceremony MC Robert Hamilton.; Mike Grenville, 160 Characters;

    www.digitwireless.com

In presenting the award on behalf of the judges, Mike Short, VP at O2 and Chairman of the Mobile Data Association said ??¢â?¬?????¢â?¬??? the judges were particularly impressed with the user centred design , that makes for a better customer experience, and the added messaging ease of use and functionality??¢â?¬??.

The Fastap??¢â????¢ keypad provides direct-entry one-touch alphanumeric input on mobile phones, allowing users to create text messages quickly and intuitively on mainstream voice-centric phones. Users are able to select letters, numbers and basic punctuation with the press of a single button, instead of "triple-tapping" or relying on predictive text software, as is available on most current phones. Equally important, Fastap provides the interface at the heart of the telephone: the 12-button keypad. Raised individual letter buttons, surrounding lower number keys, combined with raised nubs on the keypad edge and center key, assist with key location and navigation.

The Fastap??¢â????¢ keypad is a direct entry ergonomic device for wireless and portable devices. It replaces the standard 12-button telephone keypad on mobile wireless telephone handsets with individual keys for both numbers and letters and fits on standard sized mobile phones. It is an innovative and patented technology that addresses the problem of data entry on these devices. Although approximately half the dimensions of a standard business card, this patented keypad allows a wireless phone user to enter letters, numbers, and basic punctuation directly, without multi-tapping or using predictive software, and without any training.

  9. Best Mobile Messaging Innovation
A wild card category looking for great ideas that make a difference to the world of mobile messaging.

??¢â?¬??¢ mobi-pass - secure MMS ticket with photo id. Mobiqa Limited United Kingdom Scotland

    Mobiqa Pictured left to right:
Ronnie Forbes, CTO Mobiqa; Ken Blakeslee, CEO Mobility Ventures www.mobiqa.com

Presenting the award, Ken Blakeslee, CEO Mobility Ventures said ??¢â?¬???With a lot of entries in this category, the judges saw the introduction of biometrics we saw as quite innovative.??¢â?¬??

"Mobiqa is a technology company focussed on the development of intelligent applications for mobile phones. Mobiqa are headquartered in Scotland with services being delivered worldwide through a network of partners in 20 countries.

The mobi-ticket??¢â????¢ solution from Mobiqa delivers a barcoded ticket to a mobile phone using SMS or MMS. The barcode is scanned from the phone display at a venue access point to authenticate the ticket. Not only does this reduce the distribution costs when compared to the postage of a paper ticket, it is secure for the fan, venue, ticket agent, and promoter. The ticket cannot simply be transferred like a paper ticket, and so touting is eliminated. The ticket agent gets automatic delivery receipts so they know when the ticket is actually received. The fan gets comfort from the instant delivery of the ticket, and the ticket is ??¢â?¬???insured??¢â?¬?? as the ticket number can be cancelled and re-issued if the mobile phone is lost or stolen. Any attempt to gain access with the cancelled ticket is detected.

The multimedia (MMS) version even enables colour images/branding and artist??¢â?¬â?¢s video to accompany the barcode and ticket copy text for those mobile phones that support it.

  10. Best SMS/MMS network infrastructure or platform
Awarded for the product that enhanced the existing messaging network. This service will provide greater volume capacity, security or reliability.
