Our distinguished panel of judges occupy a wide range of independent positions across the mobile idustry. Their backgrounds reflect the international nature of this event and the countries they come from includes England, Ireland, France, Hungary, and USA.
Angel Gambino
Controller Business Development & Emerging Platforms, BBC

Angel Gambino joined the BBC in September 2001 to create the Business Development department and soon after became the Controller of the Business Development and Emerging Platforms (mobile SMS, MMS, 3G, mobile internet, WIFI, broadband and new technologies) department at the BBC. In this capacity, Angel has launched the BBC??¢â?¬â?¢s first mobile games, WAP, MMS and video services as well as the BBC??¢â?¬â?¢s first broadband on-demand services. She is responsible for building partnerships with third party distributors and suppliers such as internet service providers, search companies, cable, DSL and mobile operators and application suppliers to enable the BBC to reach new audiences in new ways. She also advises government about the development of on demand and interactive content in her capacity as an Executive Member of the Broadband Stakeholders Group and the Innovation and Growth Team of the DTI.
Prior to joining the BBC, Angel was Managing Director of Broadband Services for Gameplay, a multimedia games company. Prior to Gameplay, Angel served as Director of Corporate Strategy for Animal Fair, an independent multimedia company in New York. Ms. Gambino was a Consultant at Ampersand Holdings where she concentrated on developing new business with Fortune 500 companies and start-ups developing online businesses and electronic payment systems.
Much of Ms Gambino's earlier career was spent as Director of Legal Affairs and other directorships at leading NGOs in the US. Her passion for new media grew after running one of the web??¢â?¬â?¢s first webcasts in 1996.
Ms Gambino holds a Juris Doctorate and two Bachelor degrees.
Graham Trickey
Technical Director, GSMA
Graham Trickey is a Senior Director for the GSM Association in London. Since joining the GSMA in September 2001, he has been responsible for viewing services from an End-to-End viewpoint. He has been directing the association??¢â?¬â?¢s MMS Taskforce, working with operators and vendors globally in to resolve any issues that might impede the success of services based on MMS. He is responsible for the GSMA??¢â?¬â?¢s work on Messaging in general, and also directs the associations WLAN Taskforce.
Most recently, Graham has been responsible for driving the Integrated Messaging Initiative ??¢â?¬â?? which seeks to combine SMS, MMS & email into a single easy to use mobile messaging service.
Graham was previously Director of the End-to-End Solutions group in Motorola, and has 10 years experience within the Mobile Telecommunications Business. Before joining Motorola, Graham had spent more than 15 years in the semiconductor business, working for major names like Inmos,
ST Microelectronics, Texas Instruments and Intel.
Guido Gybels
Director of New Technologies, RNID

Guido Gybels is currently Director of New Technologies at RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People, London, UK). He was born in Leuven, Belgium, but has been living and working in the UK for several years. He comes from a commercial IT background and is a well-respected researcher, developer and author in the world of Internet and programming. He has also studied and published in such different fields as history, linguistics, geography, didactics, docimology and psychology.
After a successful career in Belgium where he was involved in a number of large and innovative commercial projects, he joined RNID in 2001 to drive policy, innovation, research and development in the domain of Internet, broadcasting and Mobile and wireless networking technology. In that role Guido Gybels has established RNID and his New Technologies department as a leading organisation in Technology and standardisation, recently winning the most prestigious award in the Information and Communication Technology arena, a Computing Award for Excellence.

Ken Blakeslee
Chairman, WebMobility Ventures
Ken??¢â?¬â?¢s involvement over the past few years has been specifically in the area of private equity investing in the mobile sector, and his previous experience in developing telecoms, IT and web commerce business strategies with Nortel Networks spans 25+ years. His recent focus has been on the emerging new media content, applications and commerce methodologies, and the merging of these with the ubiquitous, personal access of mobile.
Ken has held numerous industry positions including chairman of the Mobile Data Association, vice chair of the UMTS Forum Market Aspects Group, founding member of the Global Mobile Commerce Forum, and in 2001 was named to the GSM Association ??¢â?¬???roll of honour??¢â?¬â?¢ for ??¢â?¬???longstanding commitment to the GSM industry??¢â?¬??.
In 2004 Ken launched and produced ??¢â?¬???Cool and Connected??¢â?¬?? a Wearable Technology Fashion Show which is now an annual feature of the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes.
Mike Short

Mike??¢â?¬â?¢s career spans 30 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, with the last 17 years in Mobile Communications. He was appointed Contracts Director of Cellnet in 1989 dealing with major infra-structure investments and UK interconnect agreements. In 1993 the focus moved to establishing Cellnet??¢â?¬â?¢s GSM service and Roaming Agreements.
He was elected Chairman of the GSM Association for 1995/96 and served on their Executive Board for 3 years. He also is a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force, UK OSAB (Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board).
Mike has chaired the MDA since 1998, leading the Association as Chairman/spokesperson and on Regulatory matters
He was appointed VP Technology for O2 in 2000 and a Visiting Professor at Surrey University in October 2002. Mike??¢â?¬â?¢s focus today is on Third Generation cellular and steering O2??¢â?¬â?¢s Group Research and Development in mobile.
Mike Grenville

As founder of 160characters.org, Mike Grenville works as a telecoms and mobile consultant, journalist and industry event organiser.
He is Chairman of start up company Kwickee that has launched the first mobile information exchange platform. Kwickee is the first and only company to benefit exclusively from Mike??¢â?¬â?¢s investment and extensive knowledge of the mobile data and content markets.
Prior to setting up 160Characters four years ago, he was a key founding member and investor of managed voice and messaging alert services company RealCall (later renamed Adeptra). He helped take the company from initial angel investment through two funding rounds that raised $40 million and his roles included Head of Customer Services and VP Country Operations evaluating opportunities for overseas expansion.
He has extensive experience in travel industry technology. He was Marketing Manager designate in the early stages of internet travel company Deckchair.com having previously spent seven years at global reservations system Galileo International as a founding employee. He was part of a small team that helped establish the Galileo operation across Europe as well sourcing the requirements and managing the development of several key products.
Paul Walsh

Paul Walsh is the co-founder and CEO of Segala M Test which specialises in both mobile testing and web accessibility conformance validation. Segala is the first specialist testing service provider worldwide to become an Associate member of the GSM Association
Paul is responsible for the strategic planning, aggressive growth and the day to day running of Segala. He is also a member of the World Wide Web consortium (W3C) - www.w3.org - and with his team provides valuable feedback on the WAI accessibility guidelines.

Paul has a solid and unparalleled history with the Internet when it comes to new consumer trends and the release of new technologies. He was one of the very first employed by AOL during the early 90s when online business development and online advertising were merely a dream that was quickly disregarded as something that ??¢â?¬???would never take off??¢â?¬â?¢.
Paul??¢â?¬â?¢s impressive 10 year relationship with the Internet is coupled with vast experience working in the mobile industry making key decisions for a diverse set of companies such as Vodafone, Orange, ADC Metrica, CMG and others. His roles have spanned strategy realignment and auditing through to radical cultural change.
Philippe Herbert

Philippe is in charge of investments in IT software at Banexi VP. Before joining BANEXI VENTURES PARTNERS, he was General Partner of Partech International for more than 7 years in charge of the investments in IT software.
His main investments were in: In-Fusio*, JobPartners, I-Progress, Mediapps and Ubitrade* (* common with Banexi Ventures Partners).
Prior to that, he held several positions at Dassault Systemes, the French worldwide leader in CAD/CAM/PDM software, including Director Business Development during 4 years.
He has an MSc. in aeronautical Engineering from ESTACA and an executive degree from HEC.
