MTN Networks in Sri Lanka is the latest operator to trial Celltick Technologies LiveScreen system sends interactive content to subscribers’ idle handsets.
MTN Networks Sri Lanka, which operates under the brand name “Dialog GSMâ€, is one of 14 operators that make up the MTN Networks group, a global cellular communications and services provider.
Under the terms of the agreement, Celltick's LiveScreen system, based on Celltick’s proprietary Interactive Broadcast technology, already deployed in Colombo, will be launched commercially in a few weeks.
Celltick’s LiveScreen capitalizes on the most precious unused real estate—the handset screen. With LiveScreen, idle handsets receive a continuous flow of personalized, segmented, location-based and time-specific messages. Messages change every minute, continuously and unobtrusively, creating a dynamic and live handset screen for the subscriber.
Value added Services are always two-clicks away: once a message is displayed, the first click opens a menu of associated services, while the second activates the selected service. This simple and transparent approach enables subscribers to easily access a variety of services such as online information services, IVR’s, WAP portals, icon/ringtone downloads and games. The system is designed for deployment on GSM/GPRS and 3G networks.
MTN Networks Sri Lanka will target LiveScreen on its entire subscriber-base, including subscribers who usually do not use VAS.
Live Screen is currently in soft launch with operators such as Hutchison in India, China Unicom, and Orange Israel already deploying it with full blown launch expected later on this month.
Dialog GSM is Sri Lanka's largest cellular network, providing services to over half a million customers (as of 2002), across all nine provinces of the island. It is a fully owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Bhd., Asia's telecommunications giant.
