Viewers across Europe of last weekend’s first ever Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen can download their favourite contestant’s song as a ringtone.
The Eurovision Song Contest has been running for almost 50 years, but this was the first time a version had been held for young performers, who must be aged between eight and 15 years old. Dino from Croatia, with his song Ti si moja prva ljubav (You are my one and only), won the competition
The second-placed Spaniard Sergio Jesus Garcia Gil performed a moving tribute to his mother, who recently died. The UK came third with My Song For The World, written and performed by 10-year-old Tom Morley from Cumbria with a song inspired by the war in Iraq.
Netsize, is offering each song as a high quality monophonic and polyphonic ringtone in coordination with the the European Broadcast Union (EBU), responsible for the pan-European broadcast of the event,
Viewers in eight countries (UK, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Poland) have access to the downloads.
Most major handset types are supported and all ringtones are charged via premium rate SMS
“This is a novel event from the EBU and ringtones are perfect as a way for fans to show their appreciation and support,†adds Craig Barrack, UK country manager at Netsize.
â€We want this music event to be experienced further than just the day of the eventâ€, commented Max Johns, Head of New Media at EBU. “Working with Netsize we have been able to mirror the contest’s pan-European nature by offering a pan-European ringtone service.â€
Next year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Manchester on 20 November 2004.
