Marketing: Coke Adds SMS

Submitted by Mike Grenville on Tue, 21 Oct 2003 21:53

coke Cokemusic.com's "Decibel Central" Promotion claims to be the first-ever cross-carrier SMS campaign in the USA.

Coca-Cola consumers in the U.S. can redeem cap codes from 20-oz. bottles via SMS, representing the first time that cross-carrier text messaging has been used in a national consumer promotion in the U.S.

The SMS component of Cokemusic.com's promotion, launched on September 30 and runing through to December 31, 2003, is open to all consumers through any of seven leading wireless carriers (ALLTEL, AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Cricket Communications, Nextel Communications, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless) and is being provided by Mobliss(R), based in Seattle, WA.

Participants can enter cap codes using their mobile phones to accrue points, or 'Decibels,' in their Decibel Central account on Cokemusic.com. Consumers build their virtual account of 'Decibels' by submitting unique cap codes from millions of specially marked bottles to the common short code '2653' (COKE) via their mobile phones. They can then visit Cokemusic.com to enter for chances to win one of thousands of prizes.
