Fenland District Council has launched a 2 year project called G8WAY for 11 to 18 year olds teaching skills in mobile logging, creative writing, ringtone melody making and logo design.
Vicky Thomson, arts development manager at the council secured £63,200 from the Regional Arts Lottery programme for the programme. The G8WAY project involves a range of artistic schemes, including street-dancing workshops, and there are even plans to develop a G8WAY arcade dance game.
Other events include a free text messaging info service, which will send details on workshops and creative events taking place as part of G8WAY and other art-related events. There will also be workshops for youngsters to learn how to make their own mobile ringtones and logos, and teenagers can enter creative text competitions. This summer, the G8WAY team will be running taster sessions, sharing skills in mobile logging, creative writing, ringtone melody making and logo design.
The programme is project managed by Blink, who will implement and maintain the information service. Andrew Wilson, director of Blink, said that "with our unique approach to working with rural communities, G8WAY promises to help develop skills, raise aspirations and increase access to the arts."
