The 2009 Mobile Messaging Awards The winners of 6th annual global Mobile Messaging Awards were announced last night in the Cabinet War Rooms in London. Winners came from contries that included Sweden, Ireland, Canada, Denmark and the UK.

Buried deep underground beneath Downing Street in London, the Cabinet War Rooms was the impressive setting for the 6th annual global Mobile Messaging Awards. While there were many interesting entries from around the world companies from Scandinavia were well represented among the winners this year.

2009 Mobile Messaging Awards - Danish Broadcasting Corporation

Messaging Infrastructure or Platform

Danish Broadcasting Corporation - DR iTool (Denmark)

This is always a hotly contested category. All four platforms shortlisted show robust scalable platforms for carrier, enterprise campaigns, opening up new messaging and internet based services. The large scale deployment of TV interactivity in nordic countries shows great promise for wider interactivity across EU based on DRiTool.

Messaging Application: Business

RIM - BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 (Canada)

While there is still much more room for growth in enterprise messaging, Blackberry continues to be a benchmark for enterprise mobile email.

2009 Mobile Messaging Awards - Momail

Messaging Application: Consumer

Momail - Momail (Sweden)

With over 4 billion mobiles worldwide, txting is no longer the only data messaging application. While there were several other worthy entrants in this category Momail was chosen as it has had some successful implementations across nordic countries already with its clientless mobile email with plans to reach a broader mass market.

2009 Mobile Messaging Awards - Anam

Messaging Application or Service: Social Use

Anam - Telenor's SMS Bully Filter in Sweden (Ireland)

With mobile penetration of mobiles so high in the youth sector the judges saw this as a really good social use. With 85% of Norwegian parents thinking that mobile phones help to make bullying more common, and almost half of Norwegian children have committed mobile bullying or know people who have. No doubt this is a figure that is repeated across many and the judges hope that by giving this award to Anam more operators will offer services like this to their subscribers.

2009 Mobile Messaging Awards - SpinVox

Innovation in Messaging

SpinVox - VoxLinks 'Speak a Text' (UK)

Although there is room for lots more, the judges were pleased to see that there continues to be some great innovation in messaging. Having been a winner judges were impressed to see continued innovation from Spinvox.

2009 Mobile Messaging Awards - Ericsson IPX

Best new Marketing Campaign Using Messaging

Ericsson IPX / Bonnier Responsemedia - Mobile SMS Coupons (Sweden)

The scale of implementation, sales uplift to the retailer and customer relevance of the winner Mobile SMS Coupons impressed the judges.

Messaging Application or Service: Public Sector

LEKAB - Life saver (Sweden)

Although there were not as many entries as would have liked in this category and the judges felt there is a lot more that can be done in the not-for-profit area, the stand out winner was Lekab.
