A trial project has been launched at the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay in Singapore that will let people book a seat for a concert online and use an SMS 'receipt' as the 'ticket' to gain entry.
On the night of the concert, they dial a number at the door using their mobile phone and their booking details will be displayed on a terminal for the usher to let them in.
The service is part of iTrove, a wireless project for people to get information on the arts and other places of interest via mobile phones or Pocket PCs.
The iTrove initiative, started in May, is led by Hewlett-Packard (HP) and involves 20 partners, including the Esplanade, SingTel, Systems@Work, a provider of online payment technology, and four hotels. It is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board.
