Products & Services: BT Adds SMS Alerts

Submitted by Mike Grenville on Fri, 30 Sep 2005 17:04

The call answering service Call Minder from BT in the UK has added the option to receive an SMS alert when a voice message has been left on a landline.

The service is only available to users of the paid Call Minder service and not the free servive. Each SMS is charged at 10p a message.

To activate the service users just enter the desired mobile number on their phone. When a voice message has been left, an SMS is automatically generated that includes the date and time of the message. However no details of the caller or even their number are included in the message.

To hear the message the user calls their number and enters their remote code to listen to the message.

The service was orginally launched a few months ago but was withdrawn because of technical problems that BT says have now been resolved.

Dedicated users of Spinvox's voicemail to SMS service hope that their service will be a future addition to is already a useful service.
