O2 and T-mobile are to enable photo sharing and printing directly from a mobile handset with KODAK Mobile Service
O2 subscribers in the UK will be able to print and share their pictures online through KODAK Mobile Service launching in March while T-mobile subscribers in the UK, Germany and Austria will be able to use the service from April. In Norway Telenor Mobil is trialing the similar Cognima Snap service.
Eastman Kodak Company and O2, announced an agreement to offer advanced online photo services to O2 customers through a jointly branded service. The O2 and KODAK Mobile Service will allow consumers to store, share, print and personalize pictures and videos directly from their mobile phone. From March 2005 customers will be able to upload, download, share, view and order Kodak prints from their mobile and have them delivered to any postal address within days.
With T-mobile, Kodak has created a handset application to upload the pictures and videos from camera phones to the Web. The new software is downloadable on selected Symbian based camera phones from the Kodak/T-Mobile local sites.
Based on the infrastructure of KODAK Mobile Service, o2.kodakmobile.co.uk, will replace the existing online picture-storage service provided by O2.
The service offers unlimited online sharing of their pictures whether they were captured on their camera phones or digital camera. They will be able to upload photos in personal secured albums either by using MMS or email from their mobile, or through the web from their computer.
Customers will also have the opportunity to download their pictures as personalized wallpaper for their mobile and order prints of their favorite images directly from their mobile or their computer. Kodak will deliver the prints to anywhere in the world using the KODAKEASYSHARE GALLERY (formerly Ofoto) printing services.
Printing Not Sending
James Parton, Head of Entertainment Products, O2 UK added, “With the advent of affordable mega pixel camera phones, O2 feels the demand for online MMS printing and value added services is set to take off."
Camera manufacturers have missed the boat to create an 'Intel Inside' with handsets they now see mobile operators as the route to stay in the picture printing business.
