Polydor Records UK is the first label to use Shazam's "Songmail" service, which enables subscribers to send friends a personalised text message attached to a song clip, to promote the new Sting single Send Your Love
A 30-second clip of the song "Send Your Love" is being sent to the mobile phones of Sting fans, who can then send the sample to several friends. The fan database was compiled from a Polydor newspaper ad campaign that invited consumers to send a text request to hear a preview of Sting's song. The audioclip is also being sent to those on Shazam's database of Sting fans who have opted to receive content about the star.
"It represents the first time a record label has used the ubiquity of mobile phones to distribute and promote an artist in this way," says Tim Porter, Shazam's U.K. marketing director. "It spreads a viral awareness of the track."
"Send Your Love" is from the album "Sacred Love," due next week in the U.S. and Oct. 13 in the U.K.
