Mike's career spans 32 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, with the last 20 years in Mobile Communications. He was appointed Director of Cellnet (now O2 UK) in 1989 dealing with major infra-structure investments and UK interconnect agreements. In 1993 the focus moved to establishing Cellnet's GSM service and Roaming Agreements.
He was elected Chairman of the GSM Association for 1995/96 and served on their Executive Board for 5 years. He has also been a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force, UK OSAB (Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board). He is a member of the PhoneppayPlus Board ( UK regulator of paid for Telephony carried Content ) and Coventry University and Ravensbourne College Boards.
Mike has chaired the MDA since 1998, leading the Association as Chairman/spokesperson and on Regulatory matters. He is also a Visiting Professor at Surrey University and De Montfort University, and a Fellow of IET and BCS.
He was appointed VP Technology for O2 in 2000 . Mike's focus today is on advanced cellular technologies , Applications trials ( eg Mobile TV , NFC , and Transport/Environmental telematics) and steering O2's Group Research and Development in mobile.
Joe Saxton - founder and driver of ideas at nfpSynergy
Joe was chair of the Institute of Fundraising till July 2008. He is also chair of the CharityComms the new professional body for not for profit communicators. In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 he was voted the most influential person in UK fundraising. In 2007 and 2008 he named one of the 1000 most influential people in London. He has written and researched on legacies, fundraising from financial services, using mobile phones for fundraising, and generating income online.
The result of nearly a year’s work by nfpSynergy, The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and the Institute of Fundraising 'Sending out an SMS' shows how charities can now make the most of mobile.
Robert Thurner - Commercial Director, Incentivated
Robert joined the board of Incentivated as a non-executive director in 2004 and became Commercial Director in April 2006.
Incentivated is an independent, award winning mobile marketing and mobile advertising company. Our clients include blue chip advertisers, agencies, media owners, publishers, the public sector and charities. We service their needs using all mobile formats.
Robert is responsible for building the company’s sales and marketing team to service advertisers, agencies and media owners in the UK, and for expanding Incentivated into international markets.
Previously Robert was Group Marketing Director of media company Clear Channel, where he developed the marketing strategy and oversaw its implementation across the company's operations in over 40 countries throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa.
Following a BSc (Honours) in Politics from Bristol University, Robert began his career as a journalist and then public affairs consultant before joining media start up TDI (now CBS Outdoor) as Marketing Manager. During this time, TDI was awarded UK Media Brand of the Year.
Married with two daughters, Robert is a member of the Marketing Society, the International Advertising Association and the Institute of Direct Marketing, where he trains on mobile, and sits on the IAB Mobile Council.
Andrew Jackson - Head of Client Services, Mobile Interactive Technology (MIT)
Andrew started his career at the BBC, developing interactive services for Children in Need, Bargain Hunt, and Strictly Come Dancing. He joined Endemol UK in 2006 as Head of Viewer Participation , working across Deal or No Deal, Big Brother and Ready Steady Cook. He became Head of Client Services at Mobile Interactive Technology (MIT) in September 2008, leading a new team in the creation and delivery of broadcast, media, brand and agency services.
