Summary Complex settings, confusing interfaces and disabled functions show that the customer seems to be the last thing on the minds of mobile operators and handset manufacturers.

This event will be chaired by Marek Pawlowski, Editorial Director at PMN. Speakers:

More Info The predicted take up of mobile content services could hit the buffers unless simplicity and really seamless interoperability is taken seriously. But with every part of the industry striving for diferentiation, who has the power to make the industry put the customer first? "The user experience is becoming a strategic priority throughout mobile industry" said Marek

Speakers:

  • Mike Beeston, Head of Strategy and London MD, Fjord
    www.fjord.co.uk

  • Gus Desbarats, Chairman, Alloy Total Product Design
    www.thealloy.com

Gus is chairman, co- owner & founder of the alloy, a UK top-five product-design consultancy offering a full scope of innovation services from consumer research to engineering specifications. He is a regular author and speaker on design issues to seminars all over the world.

One of his biggest current pre-occupations is the large disconnect between consumer needs and product / service offers in the mobile space.

The people best placed to assit the take up of mobile multi-media services are those who know how to capture genuine consumer insight and convert this into properly resolved customer experiences.

Reality check is a project demonstration of the role designers can play to assist various players in the mobile value chain. It illustrates a holistic approach to understanding how real users interact with mobile multi-media and how to convert this insight into designs that inspire greater content consumption.

It follows through from mapping the user experience of mobile multimedia, capturing video clips and key anecdotes from alloy's in-depth user survey on mobile multi-media usage, through systematic insight into the user experience details that really matter and creative conversion of this insight into device strategy and design tactics.

  • Susanne Schantz, consultant, previously Head of Content & Applications at T-Mobile UK
    www.magnoliaroad.co.uk

Susanne reckons that the operators could save the mobile industry, but asks WILL they, and if not, why not? She will talk about operators internal UI/usability work, why it doesn't always happen correctly, how there is no synergy between operators and how the handset/technology dictates far too often (as opposed to the customer).
